Irish Railways and the last Class 121 passenger run.

Hi folks,

I've just spent the past few days in Ireland, where I was visiting to photograph the dwindling freight scene and a special railtour.

On Saturday 16th July. IE, in conjunction with Hassard Stacpoole and RAIL magazine, ran a railtour from Dublin Connolly to Sligo. All money raised was donated to the Railway Children charity. As a special attaction the train was made up of a rake of Cravens coaches hauled by the sole surviving Class 121 locomotives (124 and 134) on what will be their final passenger working.

On the day, over 220 people from Ireland, the UK and around the world enjoyed a spirited run to Sligo and back in perfect weather. A raffle was run on the train, with prizes donated by the rail industry and media.

I'd like to thank all the fantastic people I met over the 4 days, including many Irish enthusiasts whose hopspitality enabled me to get pictures in locations in places I'd never expected.

Special thanks should go to the staff of IE, especially Gregg Ryan (IE's Heritage Officer) who arranged depot access and a cab-pass for me on the railtour.

Very special thanks also go to Hassard Stacpoole (ex-RAIL, now ATOC) as the whole event was his brainchild. He did a grand job of making it happen.
