Virgin Trains unveiled the new look for their Mk3 set at Wabtec in Doncaster today. The first vehicles from the 9-car set were shown off to the press and charter operators – as Virgin have announced that the set will be available for hire.
The complete set will be back in traffic from July 21st. It’s to be used as a strategic spare but it will see regular use as the set is diagrammed to work Fridays 18.46 Euston – Preston.
As well as a mechanical overhaul the set has been refurbished internally with new carpets, lino and seat covers. Power points have also been fitted, along with wifi and laminated windows.
Here’s a look at some of the first vehicles.
